Want to join our team of volunteer tutors?

A rewarding virtual volunteer opportunity with flexible hours to accommodate the busy student lifestyle.

Entirely virtual, we accept applications from volunteers who have as little as an hour a week of their time to give. We know academic expectations escalate during the semester and we will accommodate your need to focus on school at those times.

You can help your communities, from the safety of your home.

As our daily routines and social abilities have been impacted by COVID-19, a sense of community has been disrupted. Many are facing mild to severe distress as a result of isolation and limited social interaction. Fear, uncertainty and helplessness are all feelings we relate to in a global pandemic.

The expectation of working parents to keep their children on task with at home assigned school work, while meeting the demands of their workplace, is an overwhelming burden that our community can help with. The pressure of this expectation to achieve balance may result in burnout and health issues.  Children may begin to resent the learning process as a result of seeing the stress it brings upon their parents.

No experience necessary.

Some may feel they do not have skills necessary to offer the teaching or tutoring of children virtually. We all have skills to bring to the table in the efforts to build our communities. We offer our volunteer tutors a comprehensive virtual training experience to prepare them before meeting learners. You will also be connected with a coach by our Director of Volunteer Services and Support.

We are looking for tutors to engage children in their learning and foster a positive attitude toward learning. This includes open discussion about their fears, stressors and challenges in learning. If the child brings a specific assignment, worksheet or project given by their teacher to complete at home, we will talk them through their thoughts on how to tackle it. If they have questions about specific material, we can guide them through it with a no wrong answer approach to build trust. This approach to information sharing will keep them enthusiastic about their learning.

We will provide training and coaching in these strategies to keep kids engaged. If the conversation meanders from school work, that’s ok too! Children are missing the social engagement of the classroom. Questions, stalls, diversions, are supported with meaningful and positive feedback.

Letters of reference and proof of hours available upon request.

Parents are willing to either provide written references or be contacted in the future to provide a reference for volunteer tutors.
